Performed &/or wrote racist lines, & some were snickered at by racists while others *got* the point of the satire.
To me it matters not only that they said/wrote these things, but also why. And did they have a net positive effect?
50+ Music"You Don't Bring Me Flowers" is a song written by #NeilDiamond with #AlanAndMarilynBergman for the daily TV sitcom #AllThatGlitters. The song was intended to be the theme song, but #NormanLear, the show's creator, changed the concept of the show and the song was no longer appropriate. Diamond then expanded the track from 45 seconds to 3:17, adding instrumental sections and an additional verse. The Bergmans contributed to the song's lyrics.

And yet, back in 1971, the same year #RichardNixon made his infamous “#Jew Count” — demoting #Jewish employees at the Bureau of Labor Statistics whom he accused of being part of a “Jewish cabal” out to get him — #NormanLear’s “#AllintheFamily” gave us a perfect clapback to #antisemitism.
If that wasn’t enough, it also offered a bit of wonderfully accurate #Orthodox Jewish representation.
It all happened in one scene in episode 11 of the hit sitcom’s second season, titled “The Man in the Street.”
