Hate to break it to you: lyric and chord charts ARE types of sheet music, especially if you print them off. Tab too!

I've had someone say to me, "I can't read sheet music, just tabs" (as if it were a bad thing) and I said, "tab IS sheet music, just a different way of writing it down."

They almost seemed relieved.

How has it gotten to this point?

Why does hip-hop (rap specifically) get such a bad reputation when country music is over here singing about whiskey, beer, and knocking boots?

How to Create a Safe Place for Improvising and Composing

Here are some simple actions you can take or phrases you can say or think to foster a safe place to explore and experiment with music in your general music classroom, band, orchestra, or choir classes: Things to Do If a learner has a song to play that they created and are enthusiastic about showing the class, find time during the class for them to showcase this—no matter how it sounds. Assign them homework for their new scale that they also have to make up a song in that key, however short. Enco

Staff notation is important. It's common in certain genres and situations, BUT it's also important (especially in educational settings) to know when staff notation IS NOT needed or would be inappropriate.

Reading the staff is not the be-all-and-end-all.

We are better off embracing AI in music class, because:
1) it helps to generate ideas for new creative works.
2) Students will use it anyway, so they should learn how to use it ethically.
3) AI has been around a long time (in various forms) and no one has batted an eye until recently.

Also, thinking about this further: there is no such thing as a completely original idea. Every idea comes from somewhere. AI does this, too.
