What looks like a movie set is, in reality, pure medieval engineering. The cylindrical tower dominating the image is the Bokar Fortress, designed in the 15th century to guard the main entrance to the ancient Republic of Ragusa. Its walls are up to 6 meters thick and have withstood earthquakes and sieges for over 500 years. Today, the old defensive moat has become the ideal starting point for kayaking along the coast.
