My first encounter with #anime was about 1962, seeing #MagicBoy (1959) on the big screen in our small town theatre. (Took few years to make it to our outback!) This was the first Japanese animation movie distributed in the U.S. (thank you Buena Vista!). I watched cartoons on TV all the time, but this seemed quite different.

Magischer Junge: Directed by Akira Daikubara, Taiji Yabushita. With Katsuo Nakamura, Hiroko Sakuramachi, Teruo Miyazaki, Tomoko Matsushima. A young Japanese boy climbs a mountain in search of a magic wizard. The youth finds the wizard, and is tutored by him. Reinforced with magic powers, the boy eventually fights and defeats the evil witches of down under.
