"The most serious symptom of PTDS is, of course, the phenomenon known as "TF longing": an intense and compelling desire to return to the transformed state.  While to observers this may just appear as a more intense version of mind slip, the literature clearly shows a deliniation between the two.  The primary difference lies in the subject's actions: mind slip generally entails either doing or refraining from activities related to the transformed state, while TF longing involves taking steps toward actually returning to the state, regardless of whether those actions would be concordant with the transformed state itself.  Examples from the literature range from amusing to tragic, including a former statue vandalizing a public park to stand on a plinith, a former candle nearly drowning in a vat of wax they surrepticiously entered, and a former tree wandering into a forest where they perished from exposure to the elements.  But by far the most frequent action is to seek out a practicioner of the appropriate transformative magicks in order to be returned to the prior state.  Thanks to strict licensing regulations in the Crystal City, this very intuitive action by the subject most often results in them being referred involuntariy to a mage doctor for treatment."

"Transformation spells are among the most useful tools available to mages.  Leaving aside the obvious conveniences of being able to create whatever you need from whatever is at hand, they have also solved some of the more difficult problems in our post-Calamitous society.  Take prisons.  How do you create prisons that can keep in mages with the ability to teleport, blow up structures, or become gaseous?  You could create specialized structures, with elaborate security rituals, and just accept that every once in a while there will be an escape.

Or, you could turn all the prisoners into statues for the duration of their sentence." -Enchida Zerouphisious, Master of Novices at the Planetside Transmutation Academy

"Binding a powerful entity with a circle is much like putting manacles on a bear: very difficult, not really the right tool, and usually not worth the effort anyway.  But you're deadset on putting a bear in shackles, you should make damn sure the things are strong enough for the job." -Archibald Eregnor, retired Archmage of the Crystal City Council of Mages

"The best advice for handling an unbound demon is: don't let a demon loose.  Assuming you've failed that, a hair trigger teleportation spell to a different continent is a good contingency.

...

Oh, you're looking for *practical* advice?  Urgently?  Well, I suppose you could try...wait, hello?  Are you still there?  Hello?"

"I've found that the easiest way to have a summoning go smoothly is to be as polite as you are prepared.  Demons are frequently summoned and bound by witches seeking to use them as some sort of slave--whether magical, mundane, or even sexual.  Quite rude, really, yanking someone from their home, putting them in bondage, and demanding they perform your wishes immediately.  Would you like that?  No, and while some beings are quite happy to be summoned on a moment's notice--the notorious Tome Imps come to mind--most demons wield great power and are not used to coming and going as someone else pleases.  This is why the best summonings *entice* a demon to come, instead of forcing them, though this has its own complexities.

Regardless of how you do it, you should at least be courteous once they arrive.  Food and drink go far, as do artifacts or treasures the particular demon values, but I think that the most powerful thing to do is often a simple 'Hello, sorry for the inconvenience, do you have a minute to discuss a proposition?'  This often leads to an insightful exchange with the demon, but if nothing else, it will confuse them long enough for you to adjust your bindings.

Whatever you do, though, *don't* just start listing out demands as soon as the demon gets there.  Surefire recipe for trouble." -Simóne Le Fleur, spirit witch

"Of course, even if you manage to summon the exact being you intended to, this is no guarentee of success ('success' here being defined as getting a desired benefit without immediate negative repercussions).  Extradimensional entities are fickle, and the ones worth summoning are, obviously, also quite powerful.  This is why immaculate detail is required in the design and execution of the summoning, with particular care given to the binding mechanisms in the circle." -excerpt from the notes of convicted necromancer Julia Page

"The trouble with summoning demons isn't that it's complex.  It's actually quite simple--a circle and a bit of energy is all that's really needed to open a door to other worlds.  No, the trouble is that a summoning is exactly that--a door.  Put it in the wrong place, or at the wrong time, and you may find yourself facing something rather unexpected." -excerpt from the notes of convicted necromancer Julia Page
