Dr. Marie Wilson, former Commissioner, #truthandreconciliation Commission of Canada starts morning at #wicihitowinyxe .

There are 100s in conference room & she asked those who went to #residentialschools or #dayschools to stand up & be acknowledged. About 25 people stood.

Then, an experience I have never had before. Dr. Wilson asked #intergenerationalsurvivors to stand - I stood, alongside about 50 others, to be acknowledged.

She noted there were more intergenerational survivors in the room than survivors.

She spoke of the importance of our lived experiences, our knowing, and responsibility to ensure our history is never forgotten.

#Reconciliation is not just for and about Indigenous peoples. It is for everybody. We all own our past and we must all own our future.

Bearing witness to something important is Spiritual work, it is sacred work.

Through witnessing, the event is validated.

Witnessing calls for more than momentary physical presence. It calls on you to act. How will you remember this day?

Witnessing takes kind hearts, to feel the other.

We are survivors for life - we expect you to be witnesses for life.
