One of the toughest things about moving countries? Mother's Day isn't the same here. I firmly believe my child's father is not one of those dicks who goes golfing, we are equal partners, but the cultural norm for him is to buy his mother a scratchcard and that's about it. I'm trying to communicate and also have humour about it and also allow myself to feel my rage (thanks, therapy) and also not need so much but man it's painful. #immigrantproblems #mothersday #cultureshock

After not having spoken my mother tongue out loud in 8+ years, I've come to the realisation that it's possible to sound idiotic:

- in the language you're meant to know
- the one you're using everyday
- and all the ones you foolishly thought #Duolingo would help you learn during the #pandemic...

Ich hab absolut no idea hvordan snakke flytende tai johdonmukaisesti; λυπηρός.

Not me standing at the self checkout staring at the last item trying to remember where to call it in Australia. I eventually got as far as potato which wasn’t it either 😂 Flashback to moving to Denmark & being unable to find anything #kumara #ImmigrantProblems
When I see the England flag flying it's a strong signal that I'm not welcome there. Which makes my London/Bristol-born kids supporting the English football team very painful. #ImmigrantProblems

To honor the those involved in the #Humboldt tragedy, our child's daycare is asking for the kids to wear green or hockey jerseys on Thursday.

Astutely recognizing where we stand in our journey of acculturation, the teacher then said, "You don't have a hockey jersey for your two-year-old, do you?"
