acbDay 2 of #GlasGoesPop was great. I didn’t catch the whole thing (had old friends to catch up with), but The Luxembourg Signal and Birdie were great, and Robert Forster was his usual laconic Aussie self. (Though it is a bit surreal that he is selling muesli now; it feels like something out of a dream.)

The headliners of the first night of #GlasGoesPop were Stevie Jackson (of Belle & Sebastian) and a supporting band. I’ve seen him play before (including at a Chickfactor gig almost two decades ago), and have sometimes enjoyed his music and sometimes found it a bit too self-consciously retro/vintage, in a Third Man sort of way, though this time I really enjoyed it. They played a very spirited set, including a version of Chickfactor much groovier and funkier than the relatively sedate B&S album cut.
The Jeanines were pretty good too, though I only saw part of their set as I saw them in London last weekend.
Even As We Speak were great as always; they played some old Sarah-era songs and some of their newer ones. Apparently this is the last time they perform in the silver spacesuits they’ve been rocking since their comeback, though.
I’m at #GlasGoesPop in Glasgow. So far, really impressed with The BV’s, a German band who are a good blend of C86/Sarah indiepop, krautrock and shoegaze, done well. A bit like if The Field Mice had stayed together and followed the paths they hinted at in songs like Vanishing Point and Humblebee. I could see them fitting in well at Synästhesie.
