Brujería hoy, Gerald Gardner

Esta obra publicada en el año 1954 es el texto que sacó de las sombras a la brujería moderna y sentó las bases para el nacimiento de la religión Wicca en todo el mundo. El autor, un funcionario británico jubilado y apasionado de la antropología, aprovecha la derogación de las últimas leyes contra la brujería en el Reino Unido para revelar la existencia de los antiguos cultos paganos que habían sobrevivido en secreto durante siglos. A través de sus páginas, el escritor detalla las creencias de los aquelarres, enfocándose en la adoración a las fuerzas del mundo natural, la celebración de los cambios de estación y el respeto a la figura de una Gran Diosa Madre y su contraparte masculina.

El gran valor de este documento es que destruye por completo los mitos y los prejuicios medievales que vinculaban las prácticas paganas con la adoración al diablo o la maldad, mostrando en su lugar una filosofía pacífica basada en la libertad personal y la armonía con el entorno vegetal y animal. Gardner describe los rituales tradicionales, el uso de herramientas simbólicas como el cáliz y el cuchillo ritual, y defiende que la brujería es en realidad la antigua religión del oeste de Europa que se mantuvo oculta para evitar la persecución de las iglesias oficiales.
