Recently finished Hoshizora no Memoria ~Wish Upon a Shooting Star~. Very interesting plot, quite astronomy based, you get to learn plenty about the stars, space and the folklore and mythology stories surrounding each one of them. Some of the characters, most notably Mare, Ren and Kosame are quite special, since they owe their existence out of the meteorites that fell in Hibarigasaki, in different ways. The true route was really good, there were some good explanations that covered the surrounding matters from the previous routes a little better. Also the MCs reunion with her long lost childhood friend was well developed. Can't recommend this VN enough.

The only thing I wished for was that Yume, the girl we meet in the true route, had a little more screen time, because I felt like their connection (You and Yume), while nice and wholesome, could have seen a little more of interaction. In particular in regards to them knowing a little more about themselves, since it has been so long since they last met.

Starting off with Favorite, they were initially founded in January 2003 under the name CROSSNET FAVORITE. CrossNet Co. Ltd. itself was founded in December 1998, being the parent entity of not only Favorite, but also ApRicoT (founded a few years earlier) and Pie (now defunct). As for FAVORITE, their first title was AngelWish, in May 2004, made with a reduced number of people. In-between 2004 and 2009, FAVORITE released 4 more works, but the last of them, Hoshizora no Memoria -Wish Upon a Shooting Star-, was one of their strongest entries. Favorite released a few years later their most beloved work: Irotoridori no Sekai - Want To Spread My Wings and Fly Into The Sky-. Considering their smaller influence, compared with other developers like KEY/VisualArts or Yuzusoft, it wasn't that expressive (despite some articles at the time calling it the best VN of 2011, for reference). But, if you know Favorite in any shape or form, you will always associate it with one of these two distinct works.

Hoshizora no Memoria

In few words, Hoshizora no Memoria is a VN that revolves around the mysteries of the stars in the sky, and embarks us on a journey of discovery and self-reflection. Starting this plot, some questions are introduced to us, the readers, in regards to the past of the protagonist, Kogasaka You, granting us curiosity during the reading. After the passing of mother, You, moves out to his hometown of Hibarigasaki to live with his aunt. Though, before his departure, You’s friend, who was very upset by his sudden and seemingly permanent exit, made him promise her that he would return to marry her, in the future. Years pass by, and, one day, You discovers an abandoned observatory. There, he encounters a girl, who remarkably resembles his old childhood friend… Intrigued, he decides to continuing visiting this strange girl, while living his regular high school life.

Irotoridori no Sekai

Compared with Hoshimemo, Irotoridori no Sekai is arguably the best Favorite had the occasion to make to us readers. Being set in the fictional location of Kazatsugahama, our protagonist, Kanoue Yuuma, is blessed by the power of a “translucent magician”, in his words, since young age. Every time he uses said powers, he loses part of his memories, which is why this translucent magician, whom only he can see, always reminds him not to use them unless strictly necessary. One day, on a full moon evening, a girl descended from the sky, asking Yuuma for his help, addressing him as a “Mister magician”. This story involves the concepts of altruism and its associated compromise, along with the subjects of friendship and love, while entertwining a fantastic and multi-dimensional setting, adding to a very unique combination.
