How can you support missions?
John Flavel, Puritan, says the church is made of the poor: definitely “in spirit”, mostly in purse. As shown by both the “congregation of the poor” from Ps 75, and the chosen, “poor of this world” in James 2:5.
Is your cong’n foreign to the poor in purse? Maybe just a few remembering pulling self up by bootstraps. Or are you lacking poor in spirit? No need to tolerate “the weak” struggling with sin?
How can you attract both kinds of the poor?
John Truair worked w/the American Seamen's Friend Society. Christian missionaries are rejected because of the “degrading vices” that were unknown until visited by Christian traders.
