Talensaria Hat'Naris (third from the left) is generally the best option, in my opinion. She's the cheapest cavalry option and I'd only ever choose an infantry commander in an all infantry army - which doesn't make much sense with the great cavalry options Dark Elves have.

Another proxy for Demonworld. This is a 15mm Dire Elf crossbow comand model by Wargamer Minis to replace the Dark Elf hero Balistar in Demonworld. The style is different from the other crossbowmen, but he does fit somewhat with the only other infantry hero - who is the only dark elf that wears mail in Demonworld.
He counts as a "generic hero", meaning you can field him multiple times. They basically serve as a sturdy additional comand to keep moral high, slightly increase the damage output and - most importantly - carry special equipment. You can also split them off from the unit if you really want to mess up an enemy's planning. I never managed to do that right, though.

Valdan the Destroyer, Dark Elf Commander, 15mm Demonworld miniature.

I'm not sure about this one. He's in the middle of the points costs of the three available mounted commanders, making him somewhat less usefull than the other two.

I have no idea why the trophy on his lance is clearly the severed head of a Blood Circle Priestess. There's nothing in the fluff to explain this.
