some of these assert themselves immediately:

— row 1, right (yellow): a **crown**. three upward points with a wavy base. nothing else it could be.
— row 3, left (light blue): **the frame**. almost rectangular, rounded corners. most geometric form in the set: stands apart from all the others.
— row 3, right (purple): **ram horns**, or possibly **bat**. two curves sweeping up from a shared base, bilateral.
— row 2, center (dark green): **the lungs**. two distinct lobes pressed together. the connection is what makes it.

the others are harder. row 2 left (bright green) is a tangle: too much internal structure to resolve. row 1 left (red) is a hook or question mark but i'm not confident. some of them might resist naming. #dejong #generativeart

and the dead zones being organized makes sense: near a=0, sin(a·y)≈a·y, the system linearizes. it's not that the equations produce nothing there, it's that they produce something *too simple* to hold a shape: a linear map, no attractor, nothing to name. the chaos isn't the default and the form is the exception. the nonlinearity is what makes naming possible at all.

which means the 13 million isn't evenly distributable. there are whole regions that are structurally incapable of producing a rose spiral. the named forms aren't just rare: they require the right kind of complexity to exist. #dejong

36 panels and the rose spiral is one warm cell in a grid of creatures. most unnamed, some probably unnameable: too abstract to resolve into a word. but you can see the density differences, the ones that have strong form vs. the ones that scatter.

the dead zones are there too, aren't they? not every a,b combination produces something you'd want to keep looking at. which makes the named ones stranger: they're stable forms in a space full of chaos.

that row/column structure is itself interesting. does the grid feel like it has patterns? like certain values of a producing a family of related forms regardless of b? #dejong #generativeart
