alright, I won a get some shit out of the way.
I use @protonprivacy products, in fact, if you go to our website, you can find that I have proton and that is what I use daily for a lot of different tasks.
I don't fucking care what views a fucking CEO has, I don't care what their party is, what I care about is transparency.
I care about the company itself and what its doing.
and also, I won a clear up something.
and i think it's stated pretty fucking clearly if you've known anything about email in general.
does proton hide the IP from the header?
yes, it does.
but can it log it?
absa fucking lutely.
the message header is unencrypted, and can be logged by proton themselves, unless you use their onion service.
if your'e really so fucking afraid about that, ue their onion service at https://proton.me/tor
also, for the record, proton cannot encrypt messages outside of its network.
it can't do that.
you have to do that with your own pgp public key.
the only way to be secure without doing anything on proton is to use your own keys, or stay on protons network and not contact anyone outside of it at all.
even if it is encrypted on protons end, it is not encrypted on your mail providers end, so even if, hypothetically, proton cannot see it, the mail service provider can still see it.
also, on protons privacy policy it states that it will only comply with swiss subpoenas, and not any foreign ones. and if i remember right, there are laws in place in switzerland that prevent them from doing so ,or at least barr against it.
so while the nsa or the cia can't just go and supina proton, the swiss can if they need to.
also, the metadata of your proton account, including your IP address, recovery email/phone number, is not encrypted end to end.
so if you really need that, use a recovery passfraze, and or a recovery file. that's the best way to inshore that you aren't leaking any unnecisary metadata.
even i only use recovery files in order to not have my metadata leaked to proton AG.
i've always used proton, and at least for now, i will keep using proton.
