I don’t care about free at point of sale. I care about free of strings. #Marketing is so underhanded and honestly they should be legally required to fully inform, not just give out vibes about things. In that vein, there should be a clear, obvious distinction between free, ad-supported and data-supported apps, services and media.
If you’re a #marketer and your knee-jerk reaction is “but then people wouldn’t be interested in my product” that’s my point. If they wouldn’t be interested when all the information is there, then the only reason they are interested is because you’re keeping them purposefully uninformed.

$10/mo (vs $199 upfront). You do spend more in 2y ($240), for a roughly 10% annual interest rate (much better than most credit cards).
BUT you can get a new device of equal or lesser value every 2 years.
OR cancel the subscription & return the device(s) at any time (it’s NOT rent-to-own).
That’s reasonably #consumerFriendly.
Note: #Apple is considering (planning?) this for the #iPhone so it’s not a crazy idea.
