Good work outlasts the worker. The man who started this passed before he could finish it. His widow offered it and all its parts for free if its new caretaker promised to see it through. John keeps it in the shop where he can tinker with it between jobs. Where he can admire the craftsmanship. And remember that it will outlast him, as well.

I like that.

The craftsman who built this Chesapeake Crab Skiff says he made it 20 years ago. Atlantic White Cedar on White Oak frames. Stays in the water year round. Still uses it.

Round sterns make it easier for a waterman to haul nets and tong oysters by hand.
Also, they look nice.
