Beyond Paradise series 4 — 7-day audience figures

As in the case of Death in Paradise series 15, I’m going to just post the BARB 7-day audience figures for Beyond Paradise series 4 in one drop at the end of the run. Again, there will be a later post with these numbers alongside the 28-day figures.

Commentary

My overall view is this is a very consistent set of numbers and nice to see the rise for the final episode. The 28-day figures will tell us more, but these look good. If we compare to the series 3 numbers, I was surprised to see these numbers are on the whole markedly lower. The 28-day numbers weren’t available when I was doing that series, so there won’t be a comparison for that.

It’s also the case Death in Paradise series 15 (link at top) attracted larger audiences, particularly the first episode. Again a side-by-side on the 28-day figures will be interesting.

The renewal for series 5 is already much suggested in various places, so clearly the overall numbers are enough for that. I will be back when the 28-day numbers appear.

Beyond Paradise series 5 — will it happen?

Series 4 of Beyond Paradise just ended (and audience numbers are looking good). We’ve had a the recent two series renewal for Death in Paradise announced as filming starts in Guadeloupe. Return to Paradise is filming series 3. Surely more tales from Shipton Abbott are on the cards?

Beyond Paradise series 5 will happen

This is pretty easy. The BBC may wait for filming to start (July?) but Kris Marshal already leaked to Chris Evans on TFI Friday Unplugged. He also hints (interview below) marriages only last a certain time…

Beyond Paradise series 4 — some thoughts

I enjoyed Beyond Paradise series 4. Along with series 3 the show seems to have found its “groove”. There’s a sense of evolution (Humphrey and Martha buying a house, Esther reuniting with Archie, Zoe leaving to travel and Kelby’s new girlfriend. We even had a cheeky reference to Dolphin Cove (setting for Return to Paradise).

More specifics

A key achievement (along with pioneering the here’s what happened flashback sequence with the characters as observers) is breaking the cycle of murders Death in Paradise is embedded with. There’s just as much quirky mystery solving with pirate maps as there is with murder of yet another visitor. Is this something we might get in Return to Paradise at some point.

Yes, it’s silly at times, but also quite emotional — there’s a very strong mental health episode early in the run as an example.

We had a running theme — who will lose their job — and for a few minutes in the final episode I did actually wonder if the show was going to end, despite its massive popularity.
