Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, often referred to as Pura Ulun Danu Beratan (“pura” means “temple” in Balinese), is one of Bali’s most iconic and picturesque temples. The temple is located on the shores of Lake Beratan, near the town of Bedugul in central Bali, Indonesia. The temple is dedicated to Dewi Danu, the Balinese goddess of lakes, rivers, and water. It’s is an important site for offering ceremonies to ensure the fertility of the land and the prosperity of the crops, particularly rice. The temple complex features traditional Balinese architecture with multi-tiered meru (pagoda-like shrines). The most notable of these is an eleven-tiered meru dedicated to Shiva and Parvati - you can see it on the left side of the photo.
