Towards the end of the class I get a question "I passed the test, and you have taught us very well. But I don't feel confident of refereeing on the field."
Me: "I still don't feel confident, I go ahead and do it. Learn something from it"
Them: "What if I am wrong?"
Me: "You will be right even if you make a mistake. On the field of play, even god comes second to the referee. "

I get an email from my Director of Instruction to not use that phrase any more

Half the class went AHA!! The other half consisting of people below 25 are confused.
One kid raises their hand and asks "What is polaroid? Is it like snapchat?"

This is how it went
Me: Offside position is determined at the time the ball is played by a teammate. When the ball is played, you do not raise the flag immediately even if the player is in an offside position. You wait and see what develops. It is a lot like Polaroid. You take a mental picture at the time the ball is played, and then see what the polaroid picture comes out

I teach soccer refereeing at AYSO. Last weekend I was teaching a class of first time referees. We come to the Offside module and begin a conversation about when an AR raises the flag for offside.
We teach folks about waiting for involvement after recognizing an offside position.
