Saintes-Marie-de-la-Mer Roman Port: a Pleiades place resource

A Roman commercial port near the modern French town of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer is attested by over forty Roman-era shipwrecks discovered in the area since the 1990s, most carrying cargoes of metal. The excavators posit in Roman times a significantly different coastline (generally further south) and an old mouth of the Rhone (Ancien Rhรดne de Saint-Ferrรฉol), located to the east of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer (Long 2011, Figure 1).

We've been averaging well over 100 updates and refinements to existing records in the gazetteer every week (144 so far this week). Better coordinates are one of the common improvements.

Here's an example, submitted by first-time contributor Catherine Bouras who is Secrรฉtaire de rรฉdaction of the indispensable Chronique des fouilles en ligne at the French School in Athens.
