Wow, Anarchy Online is still going, my account is still around, and they’ve apparently got a fancy new client…
Tempted to give my froob fixer another spin. (I wonder if clicksaver even works with Wine)

@massivelyop It kinda depends on the MMO, tbh. Some of them have been designed from the ground up to have Your character be the True chosen one and everyone else is kinda just supports. They wouldn't work if the quests were suddenly retconned. It's basically old school MMOs or bust if you want a non-epic feel.
One of the things I always appreciated about #anarchyonline was that you weren't The Chosen One Who Must Save The Universe. You were just another Homo Solitus/Opifex/Atrox/Nano cyborged up to make use of Notum-powered Nanobots, Implants and Symbiants, on a hectic half-terraformed planet full of others like you all trying to make their own way in life. The randomly generated mission terminal missions were a perfect illustration of the fact that you were just a specialised cog in a galaxy-spanning machine. You could get very powerful and rich, with luxury apartments and vehicles and a vast wardrobe, and lead a powerful Oragnization within your chosen faction owning an advanced city and multiple Notum mining fields, but you weren't going to save the whole world or become the Ultimate Emperor.
Later on they did start to get a bit into the You Are A Bit More Special Than The Rest questlines which only just managed to keep on the right side of Super Special Hero narrative by keeping it in a bit of a time loop (i.e. The Beast is slain and everything changes! Again, and again, and again, and again...) Oh well.
@massivelyop V for reload (I blame #anarchyonline ) and R for roll (I don't even remember which game to blame for that, probably #thesecretworld ).
Also 0 (the number) as crouch for #Warframe because I use a Naga mouse and the 10 sits directly under the top joint of my thumb so it's infinitely more comfy to bullet-jump than spamming ctrl with my little finger.
@massivelyop What is "too many"? As long as they don't take up precious inventory slots, I'll take as many as they'll give me! A fun add-on to have in games that support it is a mount randomiser (provided you can customise it to remove unsuitable ones).
In #Anarchyonline I'd pick a Yalm or later on Phasefront that matched the character's outfit becasue I had just about all of them on most of my alts!
@massivelyop Oh boy, inventory management. My beloathed.
I was spoiled rotten by #AnarchyOnline and its extremely generous bank'n'backpack space plus the inventory tracking apps that people had written. I had a well-organised army of froob alts full of bags and provided I ensured the Inventory app was running, I could find anything instantly and retrieve it in a few moments.
Even the default inventory on any given character is comfortably big once you get a bunch of backpacks in it and all bags have the same capacity so you just buy the cheapest lil 250cred small backpacks and you don't have to unlock bag slots or some other such microtransation BS.
Yes it's still somewhat time-consuming performing the action of trading stuff around bank alts but you have plenty of room to work with. All it takes is a little organisation.
More modern MMOs have inventory slots in barely-double digits, with bags that cost a fortune and bag slots you have to pay through the nose with real money for (multiplied if you dare to have alts). Add it to very limited bank space, and alt-making with a big faff to trade things around and now real way to keep track of what you have where automatically. *glares at Cryptic, Trion etc* UGH.
U G H.
The pain of only having about 2 empty open inventory slots to work with trying to shuffle a bunch of things around various characters is obnoxious and honestly, charging me money to ease that VERY ARTIFICIALLY INDUCED pain point just makes me hate your company and swear to never give you a single penny.
@massivelyop #TheSecretWorld has the best lore and storytelling in any MMO I have played.
That said there's lots of nifty stuff squirrelled away in almost any of them, from #AnarchyOnline to #Warframe. It just might be rather less immediately accessible...
