I don't often do it, but there is a scene in Steps of Courage where my heroes have to "sing for their supper".
Even Krighen gets involved, and that moment is very intense for him. I channeled my own experience of making music together there, and I think it turned out really well.
It's the first time he's literally in tune with the others.

Sara has always felt that something was off with her mother, that she was behaving strangely. When she dared to voice her suspicion once to her father, he laughed at her.
That little fact will become really important in Book 3 (Trials of Power).

The proof copy of Steps of Courage finally arrived. And it looks really good! Also a bit less of a door stopper than I thought, so it should handle well when reading it.
I have already approved it, and will let you all know once it's actually available in bookstores. (Experience with the Winds & Pillars tells me it'll be at least a week.)

Dummerweise müssen sie nämlich in einer Taverne das Essen bezahlen und niemand hat Geld dabei.
Selbst Krighen hat dabei Spaß.

Generally, they are omitted or barely mentioned. Sometimes, they become a plot point, though.
I will admit to gleefully making Judy's period into a plot point. Appropriate for a YA book, I think. It drove Krighen to distraction. 🤣
It also led to Judy getting to know V'yma, the healer, which changed Judy's entire life.

Judy, hands down.
The entire drama starts because she forgot her phone in a picnic area.
She's also impulsive and changes her mind quickly and often. Her relationship with Krighen is definitely volatile.
Yet she's also caring, generous and funny. Sara sees Judy as her best friend for a good reason.

Krighen has a secret - so secret even he doesn't know about it, at first. His commander does, though, or at least suspects it.
Still, she has no choice but to send him to the next town with the girl he grabbed on Earth.
The secret is so dark that Krighen's life is forfeit the moment it is revealed. Or will it?

Sara and Judy would totally first laugh and then cry, because they miss their home so much.
Crash and Krighen would be very suspicious but let themselves be persuaded to try it - mostly to console their friends. Hugs will be exchanged, too.

Sara und Judy tragen Unterhemd, Hemd (t-shirt), Pullover, Jeans, Strümpfe und je nach Bedarf Jacke oder Umhang. Manchmal aus Wolle.
Crash und Krighen tragen nicht wirklich Kleidung. Sie manifestieren ihre "Lederkleidung", und wenn es kalt wird, dann machen sie das Leder einfach dicker.
