... omdat jij huilen moet | gedicht

Ik huil omdat jij huilen moet. Het zwaar hebt, ook al doe je goed.

When do words become a poem?
I’m asking for a friend.
Or maybe what I mean is *how*
do words become a poem?

And where’s the off-switch for it, because that’s a thing that’s useful to know in case of emergency. I mean, sometimes you just need to warn someone about impending doom, and poetry isn’t the best way to do that.

Although.

Unpoetic warnings of doom don’t seem to be working,
so maybe we should give poetry a try.

I, for one, would choose a world
wherein the world could be saved
by spondees and iambs,
by haikus and sonnets.
