Mt Bierstadt is a common choice for a first winter fourteener. While the trailhead at Guanella Pass closes each fall until May, it only adds 1-2 miles to the overall distance.

The route is usually free of significant avalanche danger, except for one spot you can easily skirt along the road closure.
