2/2 Zweite für mich komplett neue Arbeit von #WilliamHogarth ist ein S/W-Stich aus dem Jahre 1754 mit dem Titel »Satire on False Perspective«, in dem Hogarth einige Unmöglichkeiten vorwegnimmt, die später z.B. durch #MCEscher große Popularität erlangten.
Beide Werke stützen meine These, dass es zu allem, was uns typisch modern und zeitgenössisch dünkt zumeist schon überraschende Vor-Echos gibt. Wir müssen nur suchen und finden wollen.
1/2 Seit ich als Teen/Twen die Beschreibungen der Stiche von #WilliamHogarth (1697-1764) durch Lichtenberg gelesen habe, fasziniert mich dieser englische Künstler. Nun habe ich zwei Werke von ihm zum ersten Mal zur Kenntnis genommen, die mir aufs neue zeigen, daß der Mann einen guten Draht zu den Musen hatte.
Erstens: Illustration zu Miltons »Paradise Lost« mit Satan, Sünde und Tot von 1740. Form- und Farbsprache nehmen frappant Genre-#Fantasy-Konventionen vorweg, die bis heute wirken.
