@robmac Australians often approach voting with a tribal mentality, treating their preferred political party like a beloved sports team. This loyalty persists regardless of policies or leadership changes. Interestingly, we even have a term for those who switch their vote—swinging voters—but no label for the steadfast loyalists. Politicians are aware of this loyalty and can often do no wrong in the eyes of their core supporters. A classic example is the National Party, which often represents mining companies more than rural country people.
