Friday nigh saw Swearingen and Kelli appearing with the #VirginiaSymphony in a touring pops program “Fire and Rain” that featured ‘70s music big band style. Tracks included “Sounds of Silence” "Fire and Rain” etc. Artists represented: Simon and Garfunkel, Jackson Brown, Eagles, Carol King, Joni Mitchel, and more.

Two wonderful tenors and Kelli. Very polished.

These folks have been together for 10+ years and have 4 CDs in pring.

Scandalous #music #liveshow #VirginiaSymphony played music by a still living composer, Caroline Shaw. Not a premier although the VaSO has premiered other of her works.

The show continued with Mozart Simfonia Concertante in E-flat major (apparently, that is a key) K364*.

Two foxy guest artists, played violin and viola. Elizabeth Vanderheide and Celia Daggy. See them if you can, for the bow-work, not the cocktail dresses. Two rising stars. The made the Mozart sing.

Did Mozart discover bebop? I have a feeling the bebop language is far older than jazz. The violin and viola lead parts were full of bebop phrasing.

And Beethoven brought it home with his Fifth Symphony. Eric changed up the seating and forces on stage to follow Beethoven’s original orchestration. TheVaSO did Beethoven proud. Fresh, muscular. Easily the best 5th I’ve heard.
