Castle Minerva, a 1955 psychological spy novel by Victor Canning. A British ex-spy has to babysit a prince. Lots of moral murkiness. Bad guys doing things for comprehensible motives. Gritty realism in the Graham Greene-Eric Ambler style.Superb.

12th and final book in my challenge to read 1 book a month that inspired a #Hitchcock film. #TheRainbirdPattern (filmed as #FamilyPlot) by #VictorCanning is an oddball thriller. A pair of detectives and a clairvoyant and her amateur sleuth partner are searching for the same man, but for different reasons. There are some mildly amusing moments and a number of surprising twists along the way as the stories converge. A fun (but not brilliant) end to my challenge by an author I was unfamiliar with.
