The Uesugi clan (上杉氏) was a powerful samurai family with roots tracing back to the Kamakura period (1185–1333). They rose to prominence during the Muromachi period (1336–1573) and played a key role in shaping Japanese history through their influence as military governors (shugo) and their involvement in major conflicts during the Sengoku period (1467–1615).
