SuzeMcPayneBigger Than Trauma is an incredible film by director Vedrana Pribačić and producer Mirta Puhlovski. It charts the journey of a group of women as they take part in a therapy programme in Vukovar, Croacia, to work through the trauma of the Yugoslav wars of the 1990s. Hearing about the abuse they suffered is just heart-breaking but watching them grow and learn to trust again is beautiful. As you say, it’s complex.
We have imposed not just an inappropriate criminal justice system on First Nations, but consistently fail to acknowledge #TransgenerationalTrauma, the need for culturally appropriate treatment of trauma, influence of cultural traditions on who will say what and to whom, fail to admit we still believe a western world-view is the only valid world-view, and so much more.
