Everybody who's studied English history knows "1066: William the Conqueror won the Battle of Hastings." But who the heck WAS William, and how did he come to be? Yanks sure as heck don't study that, and I'm not sure Brits do either as a matter of course. tl;dr he came from a line of *Vikings* who decided they liked Rouen enough to assimilate, convert to Christianity, learn French and Latin, and basically got really good at leadership. (And forgot the Norse _language_, but not their _customs_... nor how to build boats!)
This vid is nearly an hour but to this amateur historian, _well worth it._
