A cannon embrasure at #FortJackson.
Parts of incomplete equipment (in poor condition) at the back of one casement.
While in good shape, there was still water penetration into the tunnels and casemates. In this case, there was some algae on the walls.
I've never seen rustier chains than at #FortJackson today. They practically had bark peeling off of them.
The casemates at #FortJackson are in pretty good condition, and cleaner than some of these #ThirdSystem forts.
Short video of reenactors (yeah, I know) firing cannons from the top of #FortJackson . It was much louder than the video implies, my ears rang for several minutes after.
John Weaver himself, author of A Legacy in Brick and Stone (THE book on #ThirdSystem forts) was giving tours today about #FortJackson.
Got to explore #FortJackson today. It was open for the #Plaquemines Parish Orange Festival. There were some reenactors there (I am not a fan, but they were shooting cannons, which was cool). I didn't really like seeing cars parked in the casemates, feels very rude.
