Per decenni la progettazione ha assunto come riferimento un utente implicito: maschile, abile, occidentale, in buona salute. Uno “standard” presentato come universale che ha escluso più persone di quante ne ha incluse. In La sedia del sadico l’esperta di design ripercorre la storia di alcuni oggetti e dispositivi mostrando come quella presunta neutralità abbia escluso le donne, e propone di rinegoziare corpi, potere e saperi per immaginare alternative

For decades, design has taken as a reference an implicit user: male, skilled, Western, in good health. A “standard” presented as universal that has excluded more people than it has included. In “The Sadist’s Chair,” the design expert recounts the history of some objects and devices, showing how that presumed neutrality has excluded women, and proposes renegotiating bodies, power, and knowledge to imagine alternatives.
