Barry Keoghan – protagonista del conturbante “Saltburn”, film del 2023 – ha dichiarato a “The Morning Mash Up” di SiriusXM che gli “attacchi” online sul suo aspetto sono diventati così pesanti da non voler più “uscire di casa”.
“C’è molto odio online – ha spiegato Keoghan -. Ricevo molti insulti sul mio aspetto e la situazione è andata oltre… Sapete, capita a tutti… Ma mi ha reso timido. Mi ha fatto chiudere in me stesso, non voglio più frequentare posti, non voglio più uscire di casa”.
E ancora: “Ve lo dico con assoluta sincerità. Sta diventando un problema. Mi sono allontanato dai social media. Ma occasionalmente, dopo una première o un evento, mi connetto per vedere come vengo accolto. Purtroppo il più delle volte la reazione non è positiva”.
Sulla vita privata ha aggiunto: “Non devo nascondermi perché mi sto già nascondendo… In realtà evito certi posti proprio per via di queste cose. Temo che le ansie legate al mio aspetto possa influenzare la mia carriera. Quando queste preoccupazioni iniziano a ripercuotersi sulla tua arte, diventano un problema, perché poi non hai più voglia di apparire sullo schermo. È deludente per i fan, ma è altrettanto deludente che mio figlio debba leggere tutte queste cose quando sarà più grande”.

Barry Keoghan – the star of the unsettling “Saltburn,” the 2023 film – told “The Morning Mash Up” on SiriusXM that the “attacks” online about his appearance had become so heavy that he no longer wants to “leave the house.”
“There’s a lot of hate online – Keoghan explained – I receive many insults about my appearance and the situation has gone too far… You know, it happens to everyone… But it’s made me shy. It’s made me shut myself in, I don’t want to go to places anymore, I don’t want to leave the house.”
And he added: “I’m telling you with absolute sincerity. It’s becoming a problem. I’ve distanced myself from social media. But occasionally, after a premiere or event, I connect to see how I’m received. Unfortunately, most of the time the reaction isn’t positive.”
On his private life, he added: “I don’t have to hide because I’m already hiding… Actually, I avoid certain places just because of these things. I fear that the anxieties about my appearance could affect my career. When these concerns start to ripple into your art, it becomes a problem, because then you don’t want to appear on screen. It’s disappointing for the fans, but it’s equally disappointing that my son has to read all of this when he’s older.”
