The final episode, and the best episode of series 3. It’s funny and it feels like a script from series 1. The commune is gone. The goodbyes that dominate the early scenes are heartfelt. It feels like a last episode. After that, Reginald Perrin returns to the world of middle management. As it should be. And our perennially melancholy protagonist is soon very discontent indeed. That, too, is as it should be. The final scene makes it clear what he plans to do next… A perfect ending. 9/10

A middle-of-the-road episode. It’s more self-referential than most, with the characters commenting on their own quirks, etc. There’s no overall storyline, just a succession of short adventures. Reggie’s scenes with McBlane the angry chef are probably the highlight. It all ends rather oddly with the entire group of regulars getting badly beaten up by thugs. (Off-camera.) Whatever next? 6/10

**Hilary Tindall, Terence Alexander.** The monologue that Reggie gives on the TV interview programme at the start is wonderful. Funny and insightful. The highlight of the episode. After that, the middle section plays like a series of unconnected sketches, some better than others. Jimmy’s old nemesis shows up. The final third switches to the story of one guest, a femme fatale who lures all the men to her bedroom. It’s very much a sitcom cliché but it works well here and is very funny. 8/10

**Robert Gillespie.** Best/funniest episode so far this season. It’s still not as good as the show was in earlier seasons. Too much of the comedy now relies on one-off guest characters, and too much of the episode plays like disjointed sketches. (The boxing match is a perfect example.) But… as Reggie’s aching disquiet slowly returns our interest/amusement grows. And Leonard Rossiter has some superb moments that really showcase his genius. At this point in the story the Perrins commune is a roaring success, but the closing seconds imply that it’s all about to come crashing down… 8/10
