The "freeze a plastic mixer bowl full of water, then put it in front of a fan" swamp cooler trick managed to keep the house comfortably cool despite the brutal 36°c heat outside today. Just need to put the fan in the window the other way around so the fan's not trying to fight the south wind tonight... the house didn't exactly get to cool off last night.
