The rainfall totals happening in FNQ in the last week are mind-boggling.

Myola got > 2000 mm in 5 days! That's close to what Cairns gets in a year, 800 mm more than Brisbane's and Sydney's annual average, and nearly 4 times London's annual average. It's a lot of water!

Thinking of everyone up north, what a battering to get so early in the wet season.

Far North Queensland appears to be through the worst of ex-#TCJasper. The problems now are flooding and loss of electricity. State owned Ergon Energy is working to restore power but it's limited in what it can do while roads are flooded or damaged. Stay safe everyone. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-12-15/qld-cyclone-jasper-aftermath-friday/103230624
Thousands still without power in Far North Queensland after Jasper, heavy rain continues to pose flooding risk

Ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper is moving slowly, meaning heavy rain is expected again today in the far north, after flooded roads made many areas inaccessible for Ergon Energy repair crews yesterday.

Lesson number three: you might think your stand-up looks dramatic, but it may just look bloody silly.

Ex-#TCJasper swirling over the top of Queensland tracking toward the Gulf of Carpentaria. It crossed the Qld coast as a Cat 2 but lost power over the Queens land. It can intensify again when over water in the gulf. Treat it as a severe weather event. Stay safe everyone.
#TCJasper downgraded to ex-tropical status after it lost power over land. Still a serious weather event with high rainfall, wind, debris and rescues. Heading for the Gulf of Carpentaria where it can increase its power over water. Stay safe.

Look at this. From the radar, you'd think the very earth was being ground by Jasper's monstrous heel. But except for the weird looking sky, you'd hardly know there was a cyclone anywhere near me. #TCJasper
Wujal Wujal is a small indigenous town consisting of a couple of hundred people. They're in for a wild night. Cape Tribulation is half the size but white people and tourists. I don't doubt that the residents of both are having less fun with this than me. #TCJasper
Ooh, we cave category 2 again. Still only occasional gusts and showers at home. The next hour will be telling. #TCJasper

I am now well and truly inside the danger zone of the cyclone, supposedly getting buckets of rain and gale force winds.

Outside, the leaves are barely moving, and not a drop is falling. It's almost eerie. #TCJasper

It's still remarkably calm and mild, but things are about to get fun if the satellite image is accurate. #TCJasper
