David Alvarado won the Festival Favorite award at the Sundance for “American Pachuco: The Legend of Luis Valdez.” The documentary was a portrait of the playwright who used his artistic abilities to help his childhood friend Cesar Chavez deliver a pro-labor message to farm workers around California. Then earlier this week The New York Times published a bombshell report in which multiple women accused Chavez of sexually abusing them when they were as young as 12.
