For anyone searching for a new server, you might consider boarding the ship at gay-pirate-assassins.de
You don't even have to be gay, be a pirate and we can even talk about the requirement of being an assassin! What you need to be is act decently according to our rules.
I ran this server for myself and two friends for some time now, an I'm happy to be the new home for others. If it's a fit for you I don't know, it'd be best to read the rules, and best practices. And before you migrate your account, a few caveats:
- I am currently the only active admin of this instance. This goes for moderation and for technical administration. This is unlikely to change in the near future, although I'd generally would really like that to happen. Probably relevant: I am a white, cis, bi and abled guy from germany
- This instance aims to be anti-sexist, anti-racist and anti-ableist, and will not tolerate discriminatory behavior and moderation should reflect that. That includes preemptive blocks of external servers/users if in doubt. This server is therefore less connected that other instances might be
- This instance runs GoToSocial, not Mastodon. It lacks some features like editing posts, but has other great features like custom CSS on profiles. If you are interested in details, see the docs.
- The maximum people I'll allow to sign up initially is 10. I don't want this to become a large server, this is just a space to hangout and ten seems like a manageable number to still be responsible
- Sex-work: If you are a sexworker you are very welcome to this instance BUT I am unsure about the legal situation of linking sex-work related sites/soliciting business right now, so if you'd want to do this please reach out.
- This server hosts NSFW content (which needs to be properly CWed)
