As your way of seeing begins to widen, you may notice how often closeness depends on smoothing over difference so it can be more easily held, and how tiring that becomes once you've felt contact that allows what is other to remain fully itself.

You can spend years moving through the world under the impression that what you notice is what’s there, until something in that certainty begins to thin and you begin to sense that the field has always been wider than the habits shaping your attention, and that what comes into view now was never absent, only waiting for you to be able to notice it.

The sense of moving across the world can loosen without warning, and when it does you find yourself already inside what you'd taken to be outside you — held in something you didn't arrange and don't have to explain.

There are moments when what's changing in you and what's changing around you begin to feel less like separate processes and more like parts of the same movement, and the effort to tell them apart begins to feel like the wrong question.

What takes longer to recognise is that both are true, and that your part remains your own within that.

There is a way of engaging that keeps you just outside of what is happening, as though steadiness depends on remaining unchanged, and over time that distance begins to ask more of you than the work itself.

There are times when the work appears not to move at all if you look for it in the usual places, and yet something is forming in the relationships themselves, in the trust that holds and in the ways people begin to find one another differently.
It does not show up where you were taught to look, but it gathers nonetheless.

Some efforts return something visible right away, while others settle into the ground before anything shows. The language comes from another time; the understanding extends beyond it. There is a way of placing something carefully without needing it to come back to you.

People can sit close together and still be holding themselves apart — it shows in what stays unsaid, in how carefully everyone places themselves. Then someone is met as they are, and the space adjusts around that contact. Nothing resolves, yet what becomes possible was not available before.
