On October 4-5 (yup, next weekend!), @NASA is calling people from around the globe to join this year’s #SpaceAppsChallenge, the largest annual global hackathon. ✨🛰️🚀

I’m (once gain) running the official Local Event for Copenhagen in-person at the Republikken co-working space in Vesterbro: <https://www.spaceappschallenge.org/2025/local-events/copenhagen/>.

⭐Create #SpaceApps teams with a variety of backgrounds and skill sets
⭐Use open data from #NASA and from 14 Space Agency Partners (including @esa) to address challenges (https://www.spaceappschallenge.org/2025/challenges/) we face on earth and in space
⭐Engage and learn from NASA Subject Matter Experts (via a dedicated GitHub Discussions forum: https://github.com/nasa/spaceapps/discussions)
⭐Participate for the chance to win one of the ten Global Awards

And no, it is not just about creating "apps". #SpaceAppsChallenge is not just for coders or scientists. A global finalist from Tajikstan created a comic in 2021 to tell the story of NASA's Lucy Trojan Asteroid Mission. A global winner in 2020 from Peru created mascots to help make learning about earth and space science more fun and welcoming for younger audiences. A global finalist from the US created a children’s storybook that included moving illustrations, sound effects, and engaging music in order to tell the story of Parker, the solar probe.

You can register here: https://www.spaceappschallenge.org/2025/

Also, if you are interested not in participating in the hackathon per se but are interested in (a) being a project judge (there’s a clear rubric I’d go over with you) and help nominate local projects for global prizes, or (b) being a mentor to teams, let me know. 🙂

Not my typical type of post, but it would be remiss of me to not share this, although late this time around, I will surely bring this up earlier next year.

On October 4-5, 2025, the world’s largest anual hackathon event returns. The NASA Space Apps Challenge brings together coders, designers, engineers, storytellers, and curious minds to tackle real challenges in Earth and space science.

Registration is done individually, but team formation opened on August 21st. You can either create your own team, join an existing one, or even work solo if you prefer. Teams can have up to six people, though smaller groups are encouraged for collaboration.

Whether you’re flying solo or teaming up, this is your chance to contribute to solutions that reach beyond our planet. Check the local events near you or join virtually at the Universal Event: spaceappschallenge.org/2025/local-events

Hack on open data, together, this weekend, to address real challenges on earth and in space, and to explore how ”The Sun Touches Everything.” 🌞🌎

At #SpaceApps, there’s always space for one more! This year’s theme highlights the Sun’s interconnectedness and how the Sun’s presence reaches every community around the globe, including yours!

Register to join the largest annual global hackathon, with 10 participating space agencies (including NASA of course): in-person with me in Copenhagen (https://www.spaceappschallenge.org/nasa-space-apps-2024/2024-local-events/copenhagen/), in-person from 250+ global locations, or virtually from anywhere in the world — all for free! https://www.spaceappschallenge.org/
