🇭🇷🚌 SOCIALIST PUBLIC TRANSPORT?
I experienced a sort of a socialist public transport
I went to a bus stop: no directions, no timetables visible
I asked some locals for info:
"is here bus to Samobor?"
"da"
and "when?"
they looked confused: "don't know"
"but is here bus to Samobor?"
"da da"
I waited
The bus arrived, I showed the driver some money, to buy a ticket
He said: "Ne Ne Ne"
Free ride I guess
The bus will pass, free of charge, but nobody knows when
🇭🇷🚪THE GREEN GATE OF SLOVENIA STREET
The people of Slovenia Street can still access Croatia directly, but only by foot, using a pedestrian path that goes through the Croatian border checkpoint.
I preferred not to use that path: I didn't want to be bothered by some weirdos in uniform asking me IDs just because I have been crossing an international border multiple times in 5 minutes...
[note: Border tourists love and hate borders at the same time]
🇭🇷🚪THE GREEN GATE OF SLOVENIA STREET
On Dec 26th 1990, the inhabitants of the four (4) houses in Slovenia Street in Samobor, found themselves on the "wrong" side of the Bregana river
They were Croatian, but the only way out of their street was through the new Slovenian Republic
So, their Slovenian neighbors decided to build the "Green Gate" (I invented the name myself), complete with barbed wire, to stop them crossing into the new country
🇭🇷 Kod Kalina Bridge, in Bregana, Samobor
🌉 This bridge had been open for centuries, with people crossing freely across the Bregana river (more like across the Bragana creek, really).
⛔ Then in 1991 the bridge was closed, police were deployed to check whoever wanted to cross.
🇪🇺 Since 2023, it is open again. Not for cars, for some reason.

🇭🇷🌳🌳UNEXPECTED PLACES
Strolling around in Croatian woodlands, because, why not: I found this
What's that? It's not on the city tourist's map🤔
Looks like an altar for doing some weird witchcraft: I may see some outcast weirdos congregating here in the middle of the woods far away from the town centre
Well, no: this is the seat of the first Congress of the Croatian Communist Party
What you find walking randomly in Croatian forests, near Samobor's ruined castle
