Saw the uncut version of Ganja & Hess tonight, and it is everything the long and thoughtful article below says it is. So much to love:

- the green and red/orange colour scheme
- the experimental soundtrack by Sam Waymon, which has nothing to envy what the BBC sound workshop was doing in those days and has many elements you'd not expect to hear over at Auntie's.
- a proper nuanced female lead (Marlene Clark)
- a character speaking French properly
- a dreamy, sometimes horrifying ambience that still feels real
- black people existing in the American countryside without being lynched (the nature photography and the way the characters interact with it is great and feels a bit Penda's Fen)
- full frontal male nudity that isn't played for laughs
- etc.

See it at once if you can!
