My Florida Native GardenSalix & Populus are wind-dispersed #Salicaceae. Each seed bears a fluffy coma of hairs that increases drag & helps move the seeds around. Ulf MehligIn 2019, a student brought me fruits of Xylosma benthamii (Tul.) Triana & Planch., and we were able to obtain a few seedlings. This individual has since developed into a (thorny!) shrub, and started to flower for the first time this week. The genus is dioecious and the flowers are staminate, so we won't see fruits on this plant. The species is widely distributed in the Amazon region but we didn't find many trees around here so far.
