So for my crazy "SID 2.0" idea, or really the Commander X16 but with an analog filter, thought about using the SSM2144 filter and SSM2164 quad VCA. It looks like the X16 board has direct outputs from the YM2151 and VERA (PSG) in a header. It's not part of the card slot pinout but could be used with a ribbon cable easily enough.
For the Vera and YM, I could have an SSM2144. I'd use L/R as "to filter" and "bypass" ala the SID. So you loose stereo but gain the filter. The SSM2164 I was thinking as a way to make a LP -> HP sweep by running the LP and HP ouputs into VCAs where when one is turned up the other is turned down (inverse). Take all that, mix it all together, then feed it into, optionally the Spin chip for reverb (but maybe that's going a little too far ;P I dunno).
Got me thinking about making an SSM2144-based filter for Eurorack though, A few exist (and in DIY form) but none that I could find with the LP to HP sweep. In fact if I like this idea, I'd build a Eurorack version first since I don't need to bother with a DAC, bus decode logic, etc. etc.
This idea might be silly but it's been fun to think about at least!
