In 2007, six great Rutu Modan's graphic stories featured, translated, on 'The New York Times'. They are memoirs involving Modan herself and her family, with a prominent role of her paternal grandmother, who grew up in Warsaw and fled to Israel after the Nazi occupation of Poland. In 'Chez Maurice', Modan accompanies her grandmother to a hairdresser.
