I have solved the no composite mystery. The culprit was.... stupidity. I did the RGB bypass, which bypasses the CXA1145P, so no RGB signals going into the chip, so no RGB or composite coming out... duh! The three 6.8K resistors sit between the RGB lines and the IC. #neogeo #retromodding
Hmm... sound works (no surprise there), but no video. I thought I'd do it more simply this time, but no luck. CXA1145P pin 20 composite video out, 75 Ohm resistor, then a 220uF cap. That's what the docs say... More testing I guess... #neogeo #retromodding
Connected the audio cable directly to the plug to test first. Everything still works. We have stereo sound. At first I heard a buzz in the audio, but once I connected the scart cable directly to the tv it disappeared. Cheap ass scart splitter. #neogeo #retromodding
Decided on the location for the 3.5mm connector and quickly made the hole before my wife goes to bed. Now I can continue making a bit more space on the table... Photo of the dremel (also #aliexpress) and the 2 bits I used to make the hole. #neogeo #retromodding
I am being banished from the living room by my wife. At night, every time I drop something (small) on the floor, it wakes her up (yes, even with ear plugs in). Quickly moved some stuck projects into corners. And... I found the dremel! It was in the room, not garage. #retromodding #needsintervention
I should be making a hole now for the 3.5mm connector, but the wife has already gone to bed. So instead I am beeping the connector to find out which pin should be connected to what and posting it here so I can look it up next time... #neogeo #retromodding
Finished running the stereo audio cable to the back. Used gecko tape to keep it in place. Anyone know the secret to removing the plastic film from gecko tape, that shit is hard to get off. #neogeo #retromodding
Soldered the wires to the audio and ground points. I didn't have black shrink tube, only white in that size and I could not have 2 white wires of course, so I used a marker to make it black (GND wire). Why not use that beautiful hole at the exact right spot? Screw hole... #neogeo #retromodding
Dremel was not in my room, too lazy to go to the garage, so I used the smaller Mechanic (from #aliexpress) dremel, which worked much better actually for such a small area. Enough clearance for the wires now, so we can continue. #neogeo #retromodding
There is very little space between the front side of the PCB and the bottom shell. So I will be removing a little bit (see marking) with a dremel, just enough for the wires to pass without getting squeezed between the PCB and the bottom case. #neogeo #retromodding
