Sun-kissed marble stripes and terracotta tiles filled our view as we rounded the corner toward Brunelleschi’s majestic dome, its rose-hued curve framed by Giotto’s candy-striped bell tower on the left and sun-washed city façades on the right. It's hard to believe that scenes this grand were just a casual shore stop on the Italian cruise I shared with my best friend.

Sunlight burst across the Florentine sky, scattering lens flares as Brunelleschi’s magnificent red-tile dome loomed ahead and Giotto’s striped campanile framed the scene to the left. My friend and I paused mid-wander on our Italian cruise stop, awestruck by how Renaissance grandeur still outshines the modern city streets below.
