A Republican South Carolina House member has been arrested and charged with 10 counts of distributing sexual abuse material involving children. A judge ordered RJ May to stay in jail until his trial. Prosecutors say the three-term Republican used the name “joebidennnn69” on the Kik social media network to exchange files 220 different files of toddlers and young children involved in sex acts for about five days in spring 2024. Court documents graphically detailed 10 of the videos. May faces five years to 20 years in prison if convicted of the felonies. May's lawyers suggested someone else could have accessed his home Wi-Fi and investigators didn't directly link each use of Kik to him.
