Just came across this #HistoricalMarker website, which seems like a cool thing to exist.

The Historical Marker Database

Public history cast in metal, carved on stone, permanently marked.

I used to live in West Seattle. Until today, I did not know the story of Rolf Neslund, who accidentally ran a 550-foot freighter into the old West Seattle Bridge in 1978… and was murdered by his wife two years later! The Seattle Times article about the rogue artwork in his honor is absolutely chef’s-kiss perfect. I love all the bonkers details throughout. Plus more amazing tidbits in the comments. (Why is this not a Netflix mini-series!?) No notes. #ReadThePlaque

In West Seattle, a rogue sculpture of the infamous Rolf Neslund is saved

West Seattle residents have saved an unpermitted sculpture of Rolf Neslund, who earned the nickname “patron saint of the broken bridge” and was murdered by his wife.

National Day of Mourning

NATIONAL DAY OF MOURNING Since 1970, Native Americans have gathered at noon on Cole's Hill in Plymouth to commemorate a National Day or Mourning on the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday. Many Native Americans do not celebrate the arrival of the Pilgrims and other European settlers. To them, Thanksgiving Day is a reminder of the genocide of millions of their people, the theft of their lands, and the relentless assault on their cultures. Participants in National Day of Mourning honor Native ancestors and the struggles of Native peoples to survive today. It is a day of remembrance and spiritual connection as well as a protest of the racism and oppression which Native Americans continue to experience.
